Lucas William {One Month}

**First, a BIG Happy Father's Day to my dad, my father-in-law, my grandpa, and most importantly, my baby daddy Mr. Trav!! You all are such wonderful examples of loving, caring, FUN dads and I know Lucas will look up to each one of you as he gets older!!!

Dear Lucas,
You are one whole month old today! On one hand, I feel like you were just born last week, and on the other hand, I feel like you've been a part of our family forever! We are still just getting to know each other, but so far, I'm obsessed with you! I didn't know there was room in my heart to love another child like I love your sister, but there definitely is!

Height: 21.85 inches (56 percentile)
Weight: 9 pounds, 15 ounces (43 percentile)
Head circumference: 37.5 cm (48 percentile)

Clothes: You are mostly in newborn size clothes, with a few 0-3 month things in brands that run smaller, like Kissy Kissy stuff.
We just moved you up to size 1 diapers last week. {Side note: in the NICU, they always put you in size 1 diapers; the nurses said they liked big diapers on babies there, plus they needed the newborn sizes for the teeny preemies.} We probably could have kept you in newborn diapers a little bit longer, but we ran out and we have TONS of boxes of size 1, so I just figured it would be easy to switch now.

{this is a 3 month onesie and it's obviously pretty big on you!}

Nicknames: Baby brother, Luke, peanut, buddy, little guy, sweet boy...Ella calls you "Baby Woo-cus"

Milestones: This is going to sound totally crazy, but I'm pretty sure you have rolled over. I put you on your back on Ella's rug, took Ella potty real quick, and when we came back, you were on your belly! Not sure if it was a fluke or how you did it, but you are one strong boy and I know it is only a matter of time before you are rolling all over the place. Speaking of being strong, your head control and neck muscles are insane! You are already lifting up your head for short periods of time and your head is not as bobbly as it used to be.
I also feel like we are very, very close to a real, non-gassy smile! :)

Sleep: Ughhh Lucas. I actually don't think you are that awful of a sleeper, but it's hard with your sister because we don't have the luxury of sleeping in. You are pretty consistent in sleeping from about 11:30-3:30 each night, and then again from 4:00-6 or 7. So, technically, I guess you are just getting up once per night...but why am I still so tired?! I will say though, last night (miracle of miracles), you slept from 11 PM all the way until almost 6 AM! Happy One Month to you! And a great Father's Day present for Daddy :) Can we repeat that again soon please, preferably again tonight?!
Naps are intermittent throughout the day, but you have been more awake and alert this past week or so. We'll get you on a good nap schedule at some point; I'm not too concerned now, since you are so easy-going when we are out and about.

Best Moment: Definitely, definitely, DEFINITELY bringing you home from the hospital! I think that has been one of the best days of my whole life!!!!! We have loved having you home with us and figuring out daily life with you here!

Worst Moment: Um, obviously the days you were in the hospital, especially in the NICU. If I had to pinpoint an exact moment, it would have been when instead of sending you home, they sent you to the NICU and they made me go home after 6 days there. BIG TEARS. Let's not let anything like that happen ever again, k?! SO glad that's behind us!

Likes: Being outside, car rides, Rock n Play, your wubbanubs, lights/fans, EATING, warm baths, being held/snuggling, being on your tummy...pretty much everything. You are super chill!

Dislikes: Being cold (like when I get you out of the bathtub...you HATE that!), being hungry, diaper changes (especially when you pee on your face), getting swaddled (I have to do it while you are asleep, otherwise you act like I am torturing you!).

Health: Hahahahahahha. Well, Mr. Lucas, if you're new around here, let me fill you in real quick: You developed serious jaundice almost immediately after you were born. You had intensive phototherapy for six long days in the hospital. Then, your hemoglobin and hematocrit dropped to scary low levels, so you had to be admitted to the NICU for not one, but two blood transfusions. After 6 days in the NICU (12 days in the hospital total), you finally got to come home! We have been doing regular hemoglobin checks, and so far, so good. There is a small possibility that you would have needed to go back to the hospital for a third transfusion if your hemoglobin got too low, but so far we have avoided that. We have another check on Thursday, so fingers crossed!

Eating: You are a CHAMP. You can suck down bottles like nobody's business and we have had no issues with you latching on. If I had to guess, I'd say you are getting about 3ish ounces each feeding? You eat every 3 hours, but sometimes you get hungry and start rooting around after 2 hours, so I feed you then. You had a teensy bit of formula in the hospital when we were trying to get you to poop as much as possible (pooping lowers the bilirubin and gets rid of the jaundice quicker). It might have killed me a little bit and good grief, did it smell awful, but we all survived and it really wasn't all that bad.

It's definitely been a little bit of a rollercoaster this first month, but I am so glad the worst is behind us, Lucas! You are such a tough guy and so brave! We are so happy you are finally here, and most importantly, HOME!!! We love you so much, sweet boy!!

{And, just for fun...Ella's first month}
