Weekend Fun!

Scrolling through social media the past few days, it seems like everyone was at either a wedding or a birthday party this past weekend! Lucky for us, we got to do both! :)

Saturday was my friend Katie's wedding!

After a quick (standard) family photo shoot, we left Ella with her nanny for the very last time! Alexi is moving back to Cali and we will miss her SO much!!!

Katie's wedding was at Byron's here in Charlotte and I looooved how she decorated!!!
The flowers were beyond gorge, the cake was amazing, and her dress was....very Katie!! It was pink and sparkly...2 things I knew would be a part of her wedding! :) I loved it!

Check out her pink Chuck's...again SO Katie!

It was great to reunite with my teacher friends. We all taught at the same school once upon a time...and now NONE of us are at that school! Crazy!

Our fun didn't end there...on Sunday we went to a birthday party at the airport!

Ella was obsessed with the venue!

Unfortunately, Ella was not obsessed with taking a group picture! Ha! Look at her in the corner crying.

Happy Birthday, Emma Cate and Holden!

Hope you all had a great weekend, too!

Five on Friday!

Happy Friday!!!

1. I was in Target yesterday, and they are having some great sales on clothes!! All dresses and swimsuits are buy one, get one 50% off (plus dresses are an extra 20% off with the Cartwheel app!), so I got a few new things for Vegas!

I got this dress (plus another one I couldn't find online...its another strapless maxi, with black and white palm trees!)

I also got some yoga capris for $10! Yay for Target!!!

2. We have been having so much fun with #ellasweekoflilly on Instagram!! Here are a few of my favorite outtakes:

Be sure to follow all the fun on Instagram! {@fergmindy}

3. Ella made her first little craft at the YMCA this week!

Sorry, I can't get the picture to turn! But its an ice cream cone....not exactly sure how Ella herself "made" it (I'm thinking she screamed hysterically while the sweet teachers held her and glued on the different parts?), but I still love it nonetheless!

4. I wanted to share 2 yummy recipes I've made recently!

First, I made this for dinner last night, and it fit ALL of my criteria: super easy, less than 15 minutes, and Trav approved (and he doesn't even like shrimp! but he went back for seconds...and thirds!)

And then, we went to a cookout last weekend and I brought along these cookies! I know I've posted the recipe for these before, but they are always a big hit, so I wanted to share again!

5. Last night, Ella and I met up with Kathryn at the new Amelie's in South Charlotte
I got Ella a strawberry tart...I figured she would just eat the "straw-straws" off the top, and not be interested in the rest. Instead, she LOVED the custard and crust, and threw the strawberries on the floor!

They also had this fab Mona Lisa poster, that of course we made Ella pose with (although it was quite a struggle between her kicking the poster and me laughing)!

Ella also loved the woof woof...

...and the Eiffel Tower out front! Almost as good as going to Paris for real ;)

Have a great weekend!!!

DIY Board Book {Father's Day Present}

Happy Monday, friends!
I wanted to share what Ella got her dad yesterday for Father's Day...a board book!

My husband hates getting presents (I knowwww), but since this book is technically for Ella, he loved it! And Ella's favorite thing to do these days is read books with Daddy, so what better than to read a book about Daddy?!

It was super to easy to make!

First you will need:

-blank board book (there are directions to make them if you google it, but I ordered mine off Amazon here)
-square prints of photos (I printed mine 5"x5" but you could certainly print them the same size as your board book...I just wanted some space around the edges)
-words typed out on card stock
-paper cutter

At first, I typed out the words on photo paper, but they smudged almost instantly. So I printed them a second time onto card stock and that was much better!

Cut the card stock into strips with each sentence on it.

Lay out each page to make sure everything fits/looks right/is in the order you want it.

I sprayed the words and glued all of those down first before I glued the pictures. I will say be sure to put newspaper or a sheet down where you are spraying or you will be stuck with sticky adhesive all over your dining room table (whoops...any ideas for getting that off?!).

And voila...a fun board book for the dad who hates presents!

I'm really happy with how it turned out, and Ella loves to read this book with her dad, just like I predicted!

Five on Friday!

Happy Friday everyone!!!

Especially happy because it's the first Friday of the summer! Woohoo!!

1. It has been so freaking hot here this past week. I am talking record breaking temperatures; everyday has felt 100+ degrees. Miserable.
So, we have been playing outside, ummm, 0 times. Ella's toy room looks like a bomb has gone off.

I want to go to the pool! Can it please cool off?! I'll take even low 90s at this point!

2. Since we can't go outside, I've been organizing the crap out of my stuff I brought home from school. I got a huge bookcase and filled it with books from my classroom, and then organized all of my school supplies in our guest bedroom closet!

Makes my little heart happy, seeing all those supplies organized!
Now if only it would cool off so we could move the 4 huge tubs out of my family room and into the attic (no way in hell am I going up in that attic when it's 94484* out!!!)!

3. Anniversary flowers and my favorite wine from my husband on Tuesday?!?
He's a keeper, I tell ya.

And thank you for all of your sweet anniversary well wishes! :)

4. Sunday is the first day of summer (because it hasn't felt like summer all week or anything...)! Which means it's National Wear Your Lilly Day!!

Ella is going to take it one step further, and we are having Wear Your Lilly WEEK! I know you are jumping up and down with excitement right now ;) I will be posting her Lilly outfits daily on Instagram, so be sure to follow along! {@fergmindy}

5. Also on Sunday...Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there! (ok, I think my dad may be the only guy who read this, but still...)

A little comparison from last year...

...to this year!

She was much easier to photograph last year! This year, she looks pissed. Ha!

I'll be back next week to share what we made for Trav for Father's Day this year! :)

Have a great weekend!

Our Third Anniversary!

Hey everyone! Your eyes are not deceiving you...I switched the blog name (don't really eat that many cupcakes anymore! ;)) and redecorated a bit! Hope you like!!

Hard to believe it's been 3 years since all of this...

We celebrated our anniversary a little early this year by going out to dinner this past Saturday!

Wearing my wedding shoes, of course!
Ella stayed with her nanny, but we took a quick pic before we left.

We ate at Bentley's on 27...where we had our wedding reception, and where we have eaten for our anniversary the past 2 years.
{2013} {2014}

Ignore my reflection....but the view is gorge!

They actually had a wedding going on that day, so we had a very early dinner (5:30). But we left totally stuffed and didn't need to eat anything for the rest of the night!

Calamari for starters...

...and I got a filet mignon...

...while Trav got the NY strip!

For dessert, they brought us a complementary creme brûlée! We didn't think we could eat anymore, but we managed to polish that little bowl off no problem.

So glad we got a nice dinner out, and always love spending time with this guy!!

Here's to the next 30+ years!!! Love you Trav :)
