Five on Friday

Happy Friday, everyone!

1. Yesterday, Ella and I went with a group of friends to Aw Shucks Farm for a little field trip. It was so cute. The kids got to pretend they were little farmers and had to do all sorts of jobs. 

First, they had to plant some seeds.

Then, they had to get "eggs" (aka, egg-shaped rocks) out of the chicken coop and milk a cow (not a real cow...or milk haha). 

They also got to feed the animals, which Ella loved!

And the best part? A ride on the tractor!

For their hard work, all the kids got to pick out a prize...Ella chose this soccer ball and basketball. Of course. #likefatherlikedaughter

We finished our morning with a picnic lunch. It was suuuuper hot, but we still had such a fun time!

2. I made these tacos last night for dinner and they were amazing. They definitely satisfied my buffalo chicken craving that I've been having lately!

3. Last night Daniel Tiger Live came to Charlotte and we did not go. :(

 I have such mom guilt about this! I didn't know it would sell out so quickly, and by the time I got around to getting tickets, there were none left to buy! I saw a bunch of my friends' pictures from last night and it looked like so much fun! Please, someone who went, tell me it was not that great and we didn't miss anything. Ha! I am hoping they will come back next year! 

4. Baby Ferg update: We went back to the high risk doctor this week, and everything looks great! The only "bad" news: my baby is enormous. At not quite 37 weeks, he was estimated at a solid 8 pounds and his stomach is in the 99th percentile. At least this explains why I feel (and look!) like an enormous whale. I just hope he comes out before he weighs double digits. 

This is so me right now. 

5. My to-do list for the weekend?

-Install car seat

-Pack hospital bag

-Finish the nursery

-Think of a name for this poor child!

Eeekk! It's almost baby time!!!

Mother's Day Weekend

We had such an amazing weekend. 

Given that my husband came home from work Thursday with a 103* fever, I wasn't sure how this weekend was going to go...but thankfully Ella and I did not get sick (knock on wood) and Trav is feeling much better, so we are very grateful! 

Friday, we hit up Discovery Place Kids in Huntersville. I had never been because it is a little far from us, but it. was. awesome. We will definitely be back.

Of course we had to start out with a bang when Ella climbed up this huge 2 story play structure and then got scared in that tunnel. Guess what 9 months pregnant mom had to climb up there to rescue her? Spoiler alert: it was me. 

Moving on from that experience....they had SO many wonderful things for Ella to explore (besides giant play structures to get stuck in)...and so many of these things she was super interested in! Like a big fire truck, race car, grocery store, Legos, craft area, water table...she had a blast!!! 

After a fun morning, we had lunch with Mackenzie and Chelsea!

Love spending time with my sweet girl before her brother joins us! I'm definitely trying to soak up this 1-on-1 time with her as much as I can!

Late that day, Travis came home from work and despite feeling horrible still, he managed to surprise me for Mother's Day early with beautiful flowers and a card!

And he also had Ella make me a card...

Woohoo! We can get our yard sprayed for mosquitos!!! I am excited! 

Saturday, we were planning to go to the golf tournament, but Trav woke up with a throbbing headache and still felt pretty crappy, so we decided to postpone golf for Sunday. Instead, I took Ella to the strawberry patch (again! and in the same outfit!) so Daddy could rest. 

At one point, she wanted to see if the leaves tasted better than the strawberries...

...they didn't.

And we ran into Mackenzie! These 2 are the cutest.

After nap, we watched the Kentucky Derby. Ella made herself quite comfortable with all of the pillows and blankets. 

Sunday, we finally got to go to the golf tournament!

This was the first year we couldn't walk from our house, so we had to take the shuttle bus instead. Ella freaking loved the bus. She did not want to get off. I'm pretty sure she liked the bus better than the actual golf tournament. 

It was a little hard for this active 2 year old to stay quiet and not constantly play with the ropes, but luckily most people were really nice and understanding. She's lucky she's cute. 

She loved waving to the golfers as they walked by...and some waved back!

After walking around the golf course for 4 hours, I was so hot, tired and swollen. My feet were killing me...and they still hurt today! 

Good thing TCBY was free for moms yesterday, because it was just what I needed to recover!

Five on Friday!

A little late in posting today due to a power outage, but better late than never right?!

1. Fellow strawberry-loving friends, you MUST make this cake ASAP! My friend Katie shared the recipe with me and it is so so so delicious! I just had an enormous piece and I'm about to go back for more...

2. I hit the Well Dressed Wolf jackpot last Friday!!! I just happened to get on Facebook the very second (no, literally) they had posted about their Bargain Bin sale that only happens mayyyyyybe once a year. It is super, super rare. I started freaking out and managed to cart 3 dresses for Ella and a matching shirt for Baby Brother. I would have gotten more, but most things sold out super fast (like as soon as I put them in my cart, they would be gone)! 

I still feel like I won the lottery though. These dresses are on the Facebook resale page for hundreds of dollars a piece, and I paid less than $100 for all 4 pieces combined! 

3. Gymnastics are continuing to go well for Ella...for me not so much.

Yeah, my hugely pregnant self accidentally fell into it on Wednesday. I was trying to help Ella out of it and lost my balance and fell in. One of the other moms had to pull me out. It was hilarious and embarrassing all at the same time. 

4. More funny Ella things...

Her newest saying is whenever we ask her, "Do you want a baby brother?" she says, "No... I want a hot dog." It is really really funny. I can't figure out how to post movies on here, so just believe me. And she's never had a hot dog before. I don't know where she gets this stuff.

5. Happy Mother's Day to all my fellow moms out there!!! Especially my fab mother-in-law and my own amazing mom!!!!

Bumpdate {weeks 33-35}

Time to check in for another little update! 

First, I wanted to share with you what exactly has been going on with me and this little baby. (And I apologize if you've heard this from me already 1000 times!) 

Basically, I have something that is called Rh disease/isoimmunization/Rh incompatibility (it's basically all the same thing, but different places call it different things). If you want to google and freak yourself out like I did, you can read here, here and here. I have a negative blood type, so when I was pregnant with Ella (who is a positive blood type), I had to get a rhogam shot, both at 28 weeks and then when she was born to basically prevent this isoimmunization from occurring in my next pregnancy. Usually the first pregnancy is fine, which it was with Ella. But something happened either when she was born or when I was newly pregnant with this second baby where my negative blood mixed with either Ella's or this baby's positive blood. Now the rhogam shots will not work and my body has been building up antibodies against this positive blood. Basically, my body is trying to reject little Baby Ferg. So it's been a little scary to say the least! They have been monitoring me at my regular OB's office with monthly blood tests. This part still confuses me a little bit, but they told me if my titer levels (don't ask me what that is, but I think it has something to do with how many antibodies my body is making) got above 1:8, I would be referred to a high risk specialist. They were 1:8 at 32 weeks, and then when they did a redraw just to make sure at 34 weeks, the titer levels had gone up to 1:16. So off to the specialist I went, freaking out after googling that my baby could either be severely anemic or stillborn from this! 

Luckily at the specialist, they did a very thorough ultrasound where they examined all of baby's organs and his brain very, very closely. They were mostly concerned with the rate of blood flow into his brain. They said it looked really good, and was 1:1 second. However, if it gets above 1:1.5 seconds, then we may have to discuss a possible blood transfusion and/or inducing me right then and there. (Um, YIKES.) I go back to the specialist next week, so please pray that he is still doing well! 

Whew! Ok, onto the "fun" stuff...

Size of baby: He has gone from a cauliflower blossom to a bunch of carrots, which doesn’t seem very big to me. At our ultrasound, we were told he is about 6 pounds, 2 ounces and his head and stomach are HUGE (90 %ile)!

Weight gain: Well, on my home scale I am still up {only, ha} 35ish pounds. Of course, at the stupid doctor’s office, I am up 38 pounds. That scale HATES me. 

Maternity clothes: Yes and I am OVER them. 

Gender: It’s a BOY!!!


Movement: He hasn’t been moving as much since he’s huge and likely running out of room, but he does roll around in there from time to time and I love it! His head is for sure down, so it’s fun guessing what is an arm or leg! He feels like he is all the way up in my ribs, which he very well might be, given his size! 

Cravings: Greek anything, strawberries.

Symptoms: My sciatic nerve continues to just about kill me if I’ve been sitting for a long time, but then I can’t stand up for very long either. It’s getting hot out, and my rings are basically being shoved on to my finger every morning. My belly button has also popped out and is so weird to look at. Bending over = just kill me. I've also been feeling some minor contractions.

Workouts: Took a walk up to our neighborhood park with Ella…it was so freaking hot and hard!! I was dead. 


Sleep: Definitely getting harder and harder to fall asleep. The bathroom thing is ridiculous…a “good” night would be getting up 2-3 times to pee, but it’s usually much more! And I can’t get comfortable…my hip will randomly start hurting for whatever reason and I can’t get back to sleep. 

What I miss: Wine and being skinny!

Best moment this week: Hearing that our little boy was ok at our specialist appointment! I was so worried! And of course, loved seeing him on the ultrasound. We even got a few 4D pictures…he looks a lot like Ella! Runner up best moments: Snagging a City Select on MIC-IT and celebrating this little guy at my sprinkle!


Looking forward to: Can't wait to see this baby via ultrasound again next week...and meeting him in real life hopefully SOON! 

A Weekend of Nothing

We did a whole bunch of nothing this weekend, and it was kind of amazing. 

First up, a visit to the strawberry patch on Friday!

Ella was very upset when her shoes got muddy...we must be related.

After we recovered from that, I was really questioning my decision about coming to the strawberry patch. 35 weeks pregnant, I cannot bend over, it was hot, and now my child was getting all fussy. Luckily, Ella decided to turn it around and was all about picking strawberries! And surprisingly, she didn't pick too many green ones. I would point, she would pick. :)

Ella and Mackenzie were mesmerized by the tractor!

We picked so many berries that our basket broke! 5 pounds! And Ella insisted on carrying the basket the whole time. 

They also had some pigs and donkeys {that smelled terrible} that Ella loved watching!

The best part of going to the strawberry patch?! Strawberry slushies!!!

I could have had about 5 of those...so so so good. 

Ella also took M for a ride in this little truck. 

Not pictured: when Ella decided to climb up this 2 story (not exaggerating!) tower to go down the slide....and then got stuck at top, refusing to slide down. Guess who had to climb up there and rescue her? Yep, me and my hugely pregnant self. It was quite a spectacle. Thanks, Elle. 

Anyway, we had a blast at the strawberry patch, and all 5 pounds of our strawberries were gone within 24 hours. Oops. I didn't even get to make a strawberry pie or anything! Looks like we will have to go back this week!

After naps, our neighborhood was having a Food Truck Friday, so we walked up to that for a little bit!

I got Ella a popsicle, but she didn't like it?!?! I know. She just wanted to hold this random flower (that I have no idea where she found it) the whole time!

Saturday morning, we woke up to this:

Yep. Sleeping in her old rock n play. She climbed in there herself with her blankie and Rameses. Something tells me she might have a hard time adjusting in a few weeks?!

We also watched Penelope for a few hours...which meant, we could test drive the new stroller with a real baby! 

I'm happy to report that everything works great and both girls loved it (although Ella's face doesn't show it)!

When Kathryn came back to pick up P, I made her help me with the nursery for a little bit. 

Ella woke up from her nap, so she entertained P in baby brother's crib while the moms worked!

Also, Ella is convinced that Penelope is really her baby brother. She called P "Baby Brother" about 20 times. I don't even know how you go about dealing with this...

Saturday night, we had a gift card we needed to use to Ruth's Chris, so Trav and I had a little date night!

Of course, I forgot to get the babysitter to take our picture, so here is a (god-awful) car selfie!

It was really stormy that night and the power actually went out at the restaurant! Just for a second though, and thankfully our food was still delicious. 

It was over these delicious crab cakes that Travis vetoed every single baby name on my list. Every. single. one. UGHHHH. You all know I have been having the HARDEST time coming up with good boy names for this kid, and now we are back to square one! I will probably be in labor, if not holding the actual baby, when we finally decide on a name! Can someone just pick something out for us?!

Sunday was more of nothing. We had to test out baby brother's toys some more, and we watched the Hornets (hence the crazy outfit color combination).
