Lucas William {4 Years}

Dear Lucas,

Today you are FOUR! What?! Four seems so old to me!! How are you such a big boy?!? Four is one of my favorite ages, and even though we are stuck at home during this weird time, I know it is going to be an awesome year for you!

I have absolutely no clue how tall you are or how much you weigh. We go to the doctor next week (should be a good time, between wearing masks and you getting a bunch of shots!), so I'll try to remember to update your stats after that. You are wearing 4T clothes, with some 5T mixed in. You can still wear a few 3T things, especially shorts. You wear size 9 shoes which are starting to get a little snug. You have size 10s for Natives and Nikes :)

You are still the funniest person ever! Every time you talk just makes me smile. You currently are in the stage of mixing up sounds and words and it's my favorite. You say "pix it!" instead of "fix it," and when you and Ella both have the same thing, you say "Hey Ella, we both have!" I posted another Toddler Interview at the end of this because you always give such comical answers :) Oh, and you hate taking pictures (like father, like son)! After I take 1/2 a picture of you, you say "Dat's enuf pictures, Mommy! Don't take a picture uh me!" Hahah. So that's been fun.

You are still extremely obsessed with construction vehicles, but you also love police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, race cars and monster trucks! Your birthday party this year was supposed to be a fire truck theme, but you were cool with having your fire truck party next year when you turn 5! Thanks for being flexible!! Daddy took you to Monster Jam back in January and since then, you have not stopped playing with your monster trucks! You also love Lightning McQueen and the Cars movie! Cars, trucks, and more cars...all day long over here!!

You still love Blippi!!! You requested "Blippi colors" (orange and blue) for all of your birthday balloons/signs/streamers today! You are dying to go to the museum in South Carolina where Blippi went in one of his videos. Hopefully soon, buddy! You also still tolerate Paw Patrol and even Mickey Mouse, because you know Bennett loves both of these! You are such a great big and little brother to both of your siblings. For some reason, they always want to play with your toys (not theirs!), but we are working on sharing and most of the time you are pretty good with it!

Of course, you enjoy sports and are missing watching them on TV! You got SOOO excited to watch golf and Nascar the other day! You really like to play basketball in the driveway, as well as golf and baseball. You are pretty good at all 3! You are also playing soccer again this year...although your in-person practices got cancelled due to Covid-19, every week you get a little video to do and you always enjoy that!

How could I forget to mention that this was your first year of preschool?! I was incredibly nervous about how you would do, but oh my goodness, you flourished in school! Your teachers loved you and had nothing but good things to say about you! You always had a smile on your face while you were there and made lots of great friends! You are missing them so much! Since you've been home, we've been doing a little homeschool where we learn a new letter each day! Some days you aren't into it, but most of the time you get really excited to see what new letter you are learning that day! You know basically all of the letters now, so we are moving on to letter sounds. You can count to about 15 and write most of your numbers. We are also still working on writing your name, but you can do it 9 times out of 10.

You are still a great sleeper at night, but recently you've decided that you're over taking naps. I still make you have quiet time, but you rarely fall asleep anymore (maybe like 1-2 days a week)!
As far as eating, some days you eat everything and other days you eat nothing. Most of the time, you really like pizza, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and mac & cheese. Sometimes you don't like any of these though. You also really like cheese (only cheese cubes though, not cheese sticks), granola bars and fruit snacks. The only fruits you will eat are raspberries, strawberries and oranges. I am trying to get you to eat blueberries, but you refuse! You also randomly love carrots! I have no idea why carrots, and no other vegetables, but I guess I'll take what I can get! And, you'd probably drink a gallon milk a day if we let you.

Lulu, my best buddy!!! We are so grateful that God chose us to be your parents 4 years ago! You have kept us on our toes every day since then but we wouldn't have it any other way! Never stop making us laugh, being silly and smiling! We just can't get enough of you and love you so so much!!

Lucas’s Construction Birthday Party

Almost a month ago (whoops!), we celebrated Lucas turning 3 by having a construction-themed birthday party! He loves all things construction, so this was a no brainer and super fun to put together!

I once again rented out a local park shelter, which I love because I don't have to clean my house and party clean-up is so easy! We lucked out with nice weather (although it was a little hot)!

The backdrop might be my favorite thing I've ever stumbled across on Amazon! It was so fun...although getting it to stay down with the wind was a little frustrating!

I found all of the food name idea on Pinterest of course, and ordered the label cards off Etsy
We had:
-nuts & bolts (chex mix)
-wrecking balls (cheese puffs)
-cables (twizzlers)
-lumber (pretzel rods)
-crew crunchies/dip ahead (chips and salsa)
-builder bites (chicken nuggets from Chick Fil-A)
-dirt cups (pudding cups with oreos and gummy worms)

And of course we had cake!

This was the easiest cake to make ever!
{Three boxes of yellow cake mix in a 12"x18" sheet pan; top with chocolate frosting, crushed Oreos and M&Ms; the trucks are from Amazon here!}

For our party favors, I got each kid a bucket from the dollar store, and inside, I put bubbles and chalk! Hopefully, all things they can use this summer!

Back in April, I majorly scored when another mom was selling a bunch of construction party stuff on a local Facebook group! I scooped all of it up ASAP, including these styrofoam blocks, with golf tees to hammer!

I also got these sensory bins from her, and then accessorized with some of Lucas's construction toys!

For my little artists (Ella and her friends!), I bought a bunch of Home Depot aprons to decorate! We even had leftover fabric markers from Ella's party!

The wind was definitely an issue the day of the party. The picnic shelter was like a wind tunnel and everything kept blowing around! So we taped down all the tablecloths and even ended up taping the cones down, too! I put yellow tape to make each table look like a road, but it also helped to hold stuff down!

{Hi Bennett!}

Thank goodness Lucas had more than enough construction vehicles to help secure the tablecloths too! The only vehicles I had to buy were the ones I put on the cake! Everything else, he already had!

{Thanks for photo-bombing, Travis!}

It was a fun time celebrating our construction-loving boy!!!

My kids' outfits are all from Smock Monkey. They did a presale back in February when I knew the theme of this party...and I knew finding an outfit for Ella would be challenging, so I didn't think twice about ordering these!

Of course Lucas would have been ok with just playing in the sand the whole time...!!!

Trying to hold up 3 fingers is hard!!! We are still working on it!

He's still asking me when we can go back to his "'struction site birfday pah-ty" so I'd say it was a success!

Life with Bennett {week 39}

Hi! Hi! Hi! I'm alive!!
I'm crazy behind on this little space of mine due to our beach trip we took this past weekend! I will slowly but surely get caught up (even if it takes me a month!)...so here's a look at our week of May 17 until we left for the beach May 23!

Friday:

I figured our strawberry picking days were limited, so we decided to go one last time for this season!

{Ella's dress is super cheap from Amazon!}

And miracle of miracles...Lucas actually SMILED for a picture!!!!

Saturday:

We had Lucas's party....which I still need to type up and post for you! Coming soon, promise :)

Sunday:

Lucas's birthday!

He had a blast opening up his presents! A favorite was this soccer goal!

Ella had to sing at her preschool church that morning. They sang the sweetest little song for the benediction and it made me BAWL MY EYES OUT right there in the middle of church. Thanks for that, preschool teachers.

Once I recovered from that, our family went to the Knights baseball game for Lucas's birthday!

It was Princess Day! Ella got pictures will all of the princesses there; Lucas had ZERO interest in them, ha! He was just there for the baseball!

When it's your birthday (and let's face it, even if its not), Daddy buys you ice cream!

We had a great time celebrating our big 3 year old!

Monday:

More birthday toy testing...

...followed by a trip to the library...

...and finally, playing on Ella's preschool playground after we picked her up!

Tuesday:

Ella's preschool graduation!

I was expecting to cry hard the entire ceremony. I even asked friends (and Instagram!) for tips on how to make me not cry! But, I am happy to report, I only got a little teary when she walked in. The rest of the time, I was fine!

They had a sweet little ceremony. Her class sang some cute songs (thankfully none as sad as that crap they sang on Sunday!), and then the teacher called each child up. She announced where they would attend kindergarten, and what they wanted to be when they grow up. And do you know what our Ella wants to be? THE TOOTH FAIRY, of course!

We are so proud of our little graduate!

Wednesday:

Beach packing in full force!

We also met our friends at a new-to-us library!

The boys loved these fun chairs!

 Thursday:

Ella's last day of preschool EVER!

Thank goodness Lucas will be going there next year, or I'd be seriously so sad about leaving that preschool! I'll be a mess when Bennett is done with preschool (but that's never happening...)!

While she was at school, Lucas had his 3 year old well visit at the pediatrician!
This picture tells you how his visit went....

Yep. He screamed the entire time. He almost wouldn't even stand on the scale. He HATED it. I had to keep bribing "If you do this, we can go to the beach!" Haha. We survived, but good grief I am thankful for a healthy boy so I don't have to do that again for (hopefully) another year!

We picked up our preschool graduate, and headed to the beach!!

I'll post about our beach trip soon! And Bennett's 9 month update...and Lucas's party...and another weekly update for this week. Eiyiyiyi. SO many things. Stay tuned! :)
